Hi! I’m Malia Springer. I love my family, sewing, knitting, dyeing yarn, bad puns, and anything that involves Harry Potter or chocolate. I run Malia Mayed It, a home-based Etsy shop where I sell hand-sewn zippered bags, drawstring bags, backpacks, and hand-dyed yarn. I love custom orders and would love to chat with you if you’re looking to make an idea of yours come to life. Crafts have always been a passion of mine, and I honestly can’t remember a time when I didn’t have some sort of craft project going on.
Since I am a single mama, my shop helps me make ends meet for our little family. Turning my passion for the creative arts into a source of income is a dream come true for me. I adore the maker community and everything it stands for. Because of all of the support and love I’ve received my community, I want to do my part to give back.
The events in the news over the past few weeks have really pulled on my heart. Social media has been blowing up with experiences from women I know and love or follow online. #MeToo is being used far more often than I would like, and my heart has felt heavy for women everywhere who are suffering. Right now I’m lucky enough to have the best boyfriend a girl could ask for, but I’m a survivor of hard times too.
To raise my voice in support of my sisters, I added a new colorway of hand-dyed “Me Too” yarn. $5 of every “Me Too.” skein sold will be donated to a local women’s shelter. If you are a knitter or know someone who would love some of this yarn, go check out my page, @malia.mayed.it. I am running a giveaway for one free ball of yarn (a $30 value) and will be donating $5 in the winner’s name.
As the mother of three young girls, I want to make the world a better, safer, and more respectful place for my daughters. I want their voices to be heard. I don’t want them to suffer the things I’ve gone through. I work hard every day to show my daughters what it means to be a woman and a mother, I teach them to be the best versions of themselves, and I remind them that they have the power to make their dreams come true. After that, I do my best to live by example and work hard to make my own business and personal dreams come true.
